It was a fascinating weekend of college football. Going into this week, I said this would be the last real stinker of a slate. A lot of P5 teams were cramming one more auto-win into their schedule and the very early conference games had no real stand-out matchups. However, despite the bad slate on paper, we learned a lot about a lot of teams.
Concerning teams- Georgia really struggled and seems to have some major issues offensively. Alabama struggled even more against worse competition and has even bigger offensive issues. The Tide have no quarterback and no plan to fix what is going on. Michigan struggled early on against Bowling Green but I think Michigan is exactly who we thought they were. Florida State also struggled but I think we can chalk that up to a bad spot more than anything. Colorado also survived a near-disaster against Colorado State that would have been maybe the funniest loss in CFB history- however, we have final confirmation that Colorado is fraudulent in case anyone needed it.
Maybe they figured it out– Ohio State really seemed to have something click, even against bad competition, and Kyle McCord is now officially QB1 going into the huge matchup against Notre Dame next weekend. LSU has put together back-to-back dominant performances since their opening loss. Against a Mississippi State team that was getting a lot of love in the market, LSU could not stop scoring and the defense was perfect. I have officially added to my LSU future at 40/1. I still think they are the best team in the SEC West and Georgia looks really vulnerable. It is entirely possible that LSU will win out and make the CFP. Clemson also looked dominant against a scrappy FAU team before their massive matchup with FSU this weekend.
Look to be the real deal- You know I have to start with Washington. There was a lot of bizarre late action on Michigan State and Michael Penix stomped on that action immediately. Washington, for the third week in a row, had already won the game at halftime. They legit have not had to try in a second half yet this season. It was a super sleepy spot for Texas and despite a less-than-stellar performance they took care of business. Penn State handled business convincingly in Illinois where Big Ten teams love to go get upset or at least be scared. Notre Dame, Oregon, Oregon State, UNC, Ole Miss, and UCLA are also all teams that deserve some love for putting out big performances.
Those are my big-picture takeaways from the weekend. From a betting perspective, it was mostly pushing money around but we did turn out a small profit. I had no plays over 1u this week so clearly I wasn’t expecting much but this upcoming weekend will be much different.
CFB Week 3: 5-4 +0.58u
CFB YTD: 28-28 +0.66u
This weekend is going to be unreal. I already locked in what will be my biggest position of the weekend which was for 3u on Oregon -19.5. The Colorado route spot is here. Get in now before it gets to 21 and beyond. I also put in a few more plays so go check out my Action page for all of the early picks I have made. This is going to be a big card this weekend so get excited.
