Last night the King returned.
The Rangers made the trip up north to visit our Canadian brothers and stole game 1 from the Habs. They struggled to put the puck in the net, but an unexpected early goal from Tanner Glass put the Rangers on the board first. After taking the first period lead they just packed it in and allowed the King to do his thing. A late third period empty net goal was the dagger in the Blueshirts 2-0 win.
Many people were saying Henrik had lost his fastball and the Rangers had no chance in these playoffs because of it. Well Henrik of old arose last night and 31 saves later the Rangers took a 1-0 series lead. The King looked like the guy that led us to the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals and that’s a good sign for Rangers fans.
The Rangers now own home ice and could take a dominant 2-0 series lead tomorrow night. If they play the way they did last night I like our chances. Despite being tied in shot total, the Rangers had a lot more legitimate scoring chances than the Canadians. If Henrik keeps the crown on his head, the defense helps just a little bit, and the offense can keep striking than the Rangers could make a legitimate playoff push.
Game 2 is tomorrow night. #LGR
Rangers were hot early in year scoring at will. What happened to that production? They will need it. We have seen that defense only gets them so far. Hopefully they can make a run and there will be playoff games at MSG.
